Kyungil Ko
Bass
Kyung-il Ko was born in South Korea. He studied singing at Hansei University and the Korea National University of Arts. He completed his studies at CNIPAL and took masterclasses with Mady Mesplé, Christa Ludwig, Kurt Moll, and Michael Schade.
He is a member of the Royal Danish Opera’s soloist ensemble and has performed at the Royal Danish Theatre in roles such as Ferrando in Il trovatore, Colline in La bohème, Angelotti in Tosca, Zuniga in Carmen, King Marke in Tristan und Isolde, Caronte in Orfeo, Pietro in Simon Boccanegra, Ramfis in Aida, Gremin in Eugene Onegin, Méphistophélès in Faust, and Leporello in Don Giovanni.
From 2008 to 2010, he was a member of the ensemble at Hamburg State Opera, and from 2010 to 2013, he was part of the ensemble at Anhaltisches Theater Dessau.
He has also appeared at Théâtre de Massy, Opéra-Théâtre de Besançon, Staatstheater Darmstadt, Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Theater Osnabrück, and the Seoul Arts Center.
He won first prize at the Marmande International Vocal Competition and first prize at the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) Competition in Korea.
