Le nozze di Figaro

By W.A. Mozart

Comic opera with a twist. Savour the bittersweet humour in a labyrinthine world that mirrors life’s many winding paths.

In Mozart’s masterful comedy of intrigue – a tale of love, infidelity and forgiveness – the artistic trio Anne Barslev, Rikke Juellund and Astrid Lynge Ottosen turn their focus to women’s struggle, across social ranks, for autonomy over their own bodies within a system where the Count seeks to revive his feudal right to the estate’s young brides on their wedding night.

The maid Susanna and the Countess each attempt to secure their place within the rigid hierarchy of the household. The margins for manoeuvre are narrow; one misstep may mean falling through the cracks – or worse, over the edge. The set design reflects the layered social structure, while the elegant Rococo costumes carry a subtle sense of timelessness.

The opera is based on Beaumarchais’ revolutionary French comedy, once deemed dangerously subversive and banned from public performance for its bold challenge to the inherited privileges of the ruling class.

Mozart’s sparkling – and gently satirical – score, which has delighted audiences for centuries, overflows with some of the most exquisite music in the repertoire. Experience Annika Beinnes as Susanna alongside Henning von Schulman as Figaro and the young American baritone Ian Rucker as the Count.

Le nozze di Figaro is performed in Italian with Danish and English surtitles.
