Culture Night at The Royal Danish Theatre

We look forward to welcoming visitors to two of the Royal Danish Theatre’s venues, as well as the theatre’s B&W warehouse hall, for a wealth of special activities for all ages.

At The Opera House, visitors can follow an exciting route behind the Main Stage and into the backstage areas where the technical crews work on a daily basis. On stage, you can also experience the impressive set design from the opera Innocence.

Throughout the evening, opera and musical theatre singers will perform arias from La bohème and songs from the musical Evita. Musicians from the Royal Danish Orchestra will also present chamber music performances featuring both percussion and string ensembles. In the foyer, our wig and makeup artists will demonstrate wigs and theatrical makeup from Die Fledermaus, and costumes from Falstaff will be on display.

At the Old Stage, you can enjoy performances by students from The Royal Danish Ballet School and by the company’s aspirants, who are on the verge of becoming professional dancers. Dancers from the Royal Danish Ballet will, of course, also perform, and several of our talented pianists will give short concerts throughout the evening. You can also explore the theatre on your own via the ‘backstage route’, where the theatre’s tailors will talk about their work and showcase beautiful costumes, or follow a route through the scenery during a performance, where you can experience the magic and concentration surrounding the stage.

In addition, we are opening the doors exclusively to the theatre’s large B&W warehouse hall, S2, on Refshaleøen. Here, visitors can experience DA NIENTE, a site-specific light and sound production that makes full use of the colossal shipbuilding halls. DA NIENTE is a pioneering work of Danish electronic music by Gunner Møller Pedersen, reinterpreted by award-winning composer and sound artist Søs Gunver Ryberg and staged by Båll & Brand in collaboration with Strøm and The Royal Danish Theatre.
