Why do you think that ballet is still relevant today?
I feel that we – especially in our society today – need a free space, a place to pause time and immerse and disappear into another world. So many things are online today, but ballet needs to be experienced live. I am sure that it is healthy for everybody to sit down in the red velvet seats for a couple of hours.
And a little anecdote:
I actually auditioned for the ballet school in 1st grade, but I had a real bad experience with it. I had been to the audition and was on my way back to my parents together with the other children. But on the way I found out that I had forgotten my favorite jogging pants, so I jumped out of the group and ran back to the studio. After I found my pants I got lost on the theatre’s long hallways, but luckily one of the pedagogues found me crying and followed me back to my mother. I told her that I never wanted to go back in here, but of course I regretted that and came back again the next year.
