The duo take to the stage for one of their biggest Danish concerts to date – created in collaboration with the artists’ collective VERTIGO.
SVANEBORG KARDYB TAKE THE ROYAL THEATRE BY STORM WITH ‘VERTIGO’
Following a year of extensive international touring and sold-out concerts in Denmark, Svaneborg Kardyb are set to perform one of their biggest concerts to date on Danish soil.
In February 2026, the duo played to sold-out audiences at both the DR Concert Hall in Copenhagen and Musikhuset Aarhus – and next spring, Nikolaj Svaneborg and Jonas Kardyb invite you to a magical evening as they take to the stage at the Old Stage of the Royal Theatre.
Svaneborg Kardyb consists of Nikolaj Svaneborg on keyboards and Jonas Kardyb on drums and percussion. Together, they have created a distinctive musical universe where jazz-tinged minimalism, warm analogue sounds and repetitive grooves oscillate between the contemplative and the driving. With a minimalist set-up and a strong intuitive connection, the duo create detailed, cyclical compositions where soft Wurlitzer pads meet organic drums and percussion.
The duo made their breakthrough in 2019, when they received two Danish Music Awards in the Jazz category: New Jazz Artist of the Year and Jazz Composer of the Year. Since then, their music has reached far beyond the country’s borders. With their album Over Tage, they joined Matthew Halsall’s influential British label Gondwana Records, and since then the duo have toured extensively internationally and built up a growing audience worldwide.
A new visual universe with VERTIGO
For the concert at the Royal Theatre, Svaneborg Kardyb are collaborating with the Copenhagen-based collective VERTIGO on a set design and lighting design developed in close interplay with the music.
VERTIGO was founded in 2011 and works at the intersection of light, sound, video, installation and performing arts. The collective is known for creating sensory spaces that challenge the traditional boundary between stage and audience, and over the years has collaborated with, amongst others, Den Sorte Skole, the DR Symphony Orchestra, Copenhagen Phil, the National Gallery of Denmark and Copenhagen Contemporary, as well as creating lighting and set design for the Gloria stage at the Roskilde Festival.
It is precisely VERTIGO’s work with space, movement and light that makes this collaboration a natural extension of Svaneborg Kardyb’s music. Whilst the duo’s compositions often unfold through subtle shifts, repetitions and gradual movements, VERTIGO works with many of the same principles visually.
The concert will thus be a special staging of Svaneborg Kardyb’s music, in which sound, lighting and set design evolve in relation to one another.
