Rasmus Lyberth 75 år

Greenland’s Great Voice Celebrates a Milestone Birthday

Greenland’s great voice is turning 75. To mark the occasion, Rasmus Lyberth wishes to give his audience a unique gift: an extraordinary concert at the Royal Danish Theatre featuring songs from his 60-year career.

In a virtuoso collaboration with pianist Kristoffer Jul and a few other musicians, Rasmus Lyberth offers a beautiful and poetic evening to celebrate this milestone. Drawing on his own songs, Rasmus takes the audience on a musical journey through time. In between, he supplements the music with entertaining and disarmingly honest stories about the songs, his life, and his career. One truly feels the Greenlandic singer’s immense charisma and vibrant spirit.

Rasmus Lyberth’s impressive singing voice has an enchanting and almost magical effect on everyone who has experienced him perform. With his characteristic tone and personal lyrics, he has brought international attention to Greenland, and his artistic commitment has given the largest island in the Danish Realm perhaps its most popular artistic and cultural representative ever. Rasmus Lyberth is perceived by many as an informal ambassador for Greenlandic identity. In more ways than one, he has become "The Voice of Greenland," which is also the title of the documentary recently made about him, available to stream online at dr.dk.

Rasmus Lyberth’s musical career has seen both triumphs and challenges. He began playing the guitar at the age of 13 and worked as a sailor and helicopter mechanic before truly breaking through as a singer and composer in the 1970s. During that time, he addressed cultural taboos such as substance abuse at a time when it was certainly not popular to speak openly about such matters. Rasmus continues to write new songs, but today he most often sings about love—for people, for nature, and for that which exists between heaven and earth.

Rasmus Lyberth has been awarded the Order of the Dannebrog, numerous prizes and accolades, and has performed all over the world. In July 2011, he participated in the BBC’s prestigious Promenade Concert at the Royal Albert Hall, one of the largest musical events in the world. Regarding that performance, British media wrote that "Greenland’s great artist sings in Greenlandic so that audiences worldwide understand every word."

In addition to his wonderful Greenlandic songs, Rasmus Lyberth will give the audience at the Royal Danish Theatre an unforgettable and very powerful demonstration of Greenlandic spirit summoning. Furthermore, in his own quiet way, Rasmus will express his hopes for Greenland's future.

A long career filled with music must, of course, be celebrated with all those who have followed him. You are hereby invited to RASMUS LYBERTH 75 YEARS.
