Cæcilie Norby

At the Royal Danish Theatre’s Old Stage - 30 Years with Blue Note

For the first time, audiences can experience Cæcilie Norby at the Royal Danish Theatre’s Old Stage when she performs on October 18, 2026, to mark the 30th anniversary of her releases on the renowned jazz label Blue Note Records.

The releases on Blue Note did not only mark the beginning of her solo career but also constitute a central chapter in her international work. As the first Scandinavian vocalist, she was signed by Bruce Lundvall, who fell for her ability to unite the freedom of jazz with the melodic warmth of pop in an early crossover expression. An expression that later became part of Blue Note's success with artists such as Norah Jones and Cassandra Wilson.

The four albums – Cæcilie Norby (1995), My Corner of the Sky (1996), Queen of Bad Excuses (2000), and First Conversation (2002) – all received strong reviews both in Denmark and internationally. In the following years, Norby toured extensively in Europe, the USA, and Japan.

When Cæcilie Norby takes the Old Stage this evening, she is on familiar ground. As a child, she spent time behind the scenes, as her mother, opera singer Solveig Lumholt, often sang lead roles such as Mimi in La Bohème and the title role in Madame Butterfly.

"Back then, I was told not to make a sound – now I have come to give this magical stage my sound," says Norby.

The concert presents tracks from her Blue Note repertoire – a tribute to her own artistic journey. From heartfelt ballads to groove-based tracks, Cæcilie Norby will share her warmth and versatility, making it clear why she is one of Denmark's most beloved and prominent vocalists.

She is joined by an all-star band consisting of some of the country's finest musicians.
