DSCH Koncertteater
DSCH is coming to town! Don’t miss this critically acclaimed theater concert when it visits the Royal Danish Theatre’s Old Stage this May.
“Phenomenal” - Geoff Brown, The Times
The 18 Nordic soloists of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra have abandoned their sheet music and stands to plunge into a poetic, touching, comic, eerie, and furious dance with Shostakovich's music, set in magical scenography and lighting.
“One of the most inventive concerts of the year so far” - The Guardian
For several years, the Chamber Orchestra has experimented with its own personal concert style using virtuously choreographed elements. In collaboration with three prominent Danish theater professionals, DSCH has further developed a free and playful visual theater concert form, where emotions are moved not only through the ears but also by the musicians' surprising physical presence and raw energy in a magical visual universe.
“Visually stunning, viscerally thrilling Shostakovich. A searing triumph” - The Arts Desk
In this swirling dance, the world-renowned Finnish violin virtuoso Pekka Kuusisto leads the way, joined by award-winning Danish accordionist Bjarke Mogensen in the role of Shostakovich's alter ego.
Throughout his life, Shostakovich encoded himself into his music using the four notes D-S-C-H, a musical signature motif. This concert theater has thrilled a diverse audience, including those who do not necessarily have experience with classical concerts. Nor does the theater concert merely mirror biographical material about the musical genius in Stalin's chains; instead, one senses through the performance Shostakovich’s personal struggle, his irony, and his glowing vitality.
DSCH is supported by the Augustinus Foundation, the Louis-Hansen Foundation, the A.P. Møller Foundation, the Knud Højgaard Foundation, the Wilhelm Hansen Foundation, the Dagmar & Leon Levin and C.A. Levin Foundation, and the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces.
"...as moved as if I had seen a revelation. ....a completely new standard for what classical musicians can do, and can be persuaded to do... A heartfelt thank you!" - excerpt from Bjørn Bredal's review on FB (B.B. Wilhelm Hansen Foundation)
