Sparkling wine in your glass. Musicians in full evening dress. And some of the most beautiful music ever written. Celebrate the turning of the year in festive company with the Royal Danish Orchestra.
For nearly 600 years, the Royal Danish Orchestra has been at the heart of Danish cultural life, performing at the highest artistic level. Over the centuries, a wealth of distinguished musicians, conductors, composers and singers have appeared on both the Old Stage and The Opera House’s main stage, while eminent figures such as Carl Nielsen forged a close and enduring bond with the orchestra.
This rich heritage is celebrated as German-American conductor Evan Rogister leads the orchestra – resplendent in full gala – in a programme of classical music’s most exhilarating highlights. From Mozart, Strauss and Stravinsky to Bernstein and Thomas Adès, alongside Nordic masters such as Sibelius, Grieg, Lumbye and Carl Nielsen, the evening pays tribute to composers inextricably linked with the world’s oldest orchestra.
At the final concert on December 31st, sparkling wine will be served during the interval, and His Majesty King Frederik X’s New Year address will be broadcast live on the big screen.
Look forward to a jubilant New Year’s concert and a festive, high-spirited atmosphere as we bid farewell to the old year in the company of some of history’s greatest composers.
